Independent Energy Solutions Completes Utility-Scale Solar Electric System for Wilco Industries

Project brings half-megawatt of clean, renewable energy to San Diego County
Vista, CA - July 27, 2010 - Independent Energy Solutions, Inc. (IES), a leading solar energy development and construction firm, today announced the completion of a utility-scale rooftop photovoltaic (solar electricity) system for Wilco Industries in Vista, California (north San Diego County).
The system, capable of generating more than 454,000 watts of electricity (DC power), was developed under contract for local utility, SDG&E, and Renewable Energy Services (RES), a service-disabled veteran-owned small business. The project was funded through SDG&E's Sustainable Communities Program which installs green energy systems for LEED certification and helps the utility meet its renewable energy portfolio requirements.
Some key system features include:
- Annual electricity production of 670,940 kWh (estimated) - enough to power 61 average homes for a year.
- More than 870,000 pounds of CO2 greenhouse gas offset - the equivalent of taking 109 cars off the road.
- 2,112 Kyocera solar panel modules installed.
According to IES' chief operating officer, George Gisel, "IES was selected by SDG&E and RES for our extensive engineering experience and self-performance capabilities. Unlike many solar developers who rely heavily on subcontractors, we did 95% of the work with our own employees. That means a higher quality, more cost-effective system for our customers."
Founded in 1998, Independent Energy Solutions, Inc. (IES) is a leading provider of turnkey renewable energy systems including solar electric (photovoltaic) and hybrid generation systems. IES provides design, build, procurement, project management, training and maintenance services to a broad spectrum of customers including commercial, military, public agency, nonprofit and education.

IES to Design & Build 1.15 Megawatt Solar Electric System for The Capital Group
Irvine, CA, May 27, 2010 - Independent Energy Solutions, Inc. (IES), a firm based in Vista, California, has recently begun design and construction of a 1.15 MW solar photovoltaic system for The Capital Group Companies Irvine Campus. The solar system will be mounted on shade structures on the roofs of three parking garages and will provide nearly 50% of the energy used to power the campus data center and central plant equipment.
The Capital Group strives to provide an environmentally conscious work environment. This commitment, combined with the anticipated energy savings and available tax incentives, drove the organization to invest in solar energy. The Capital Group should benefit within five years from a full return on its investment, which is expected to save the organization more than $14 million in energy costs over the next 25 years.
IES will install approximately 5,472 Kyocera 210 W high-efficiency polycrystalline solar panels at the site, making it the largest solar energy array to date in Orange County. When completed, the system will produce 1.7 million kilowatt hours of power from the sun each year. Using solar power instead of conventional power reduces CO2 emissions by approximately 30,725 tons over the next 25 years, which is the environmental equivalent of 3.8 million miles not driven each year. "We're excited to take this step to make our Irvine Campus even greener, while saving energy and money," said Reid McCartney, vice president of Corporate Facilities for the Capital Group.

IES Donates Solar to Local School
Independent Energy Solutions recently donated eight 208-watt photovoltaic modules to the Warner Springs Outdoor Academic Experience, a program designed to teach environmental science through hands-on activities.
Outside laboratories are set up to provide students all over San Diego County with real-world learning experiences. The panels will be installed on top of the new goat barn to provide lighting and heating for newborn goats and sheep.
Students will learn the importance of alternative energy, learn to calculate energy usage, and pass on the information they have learned to other students.
Troy Strand, executive vice president of Independent Energy Solutions, presented the solar panels to Cindy Magill, Warner School Board president, and Sherri Freeman, Warner science teacher.
IES Selected as Finalist for Chamber Awards
The San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce recently selected Independent Energy Solutions (IES) as a finalist for its 2009 Small Business Awards in the "Environmental Action" category. IES was recognized for leadership in protecting and improving the environment by helping its customers generate clean, renewable power through solar electric (photovoltaics or PV). Since its founding in 1998, IES has designed and installed reliable, cost-effective PV systems worldwide that will generate over 200 million kW hours of electricity and offset more than 96,000,000 tons of carbon -- all while reducing our planet's reliance on fossil fuels. Independent Energy Solutions and its President/CEO, Linda Strand, were featured in a recent North County Times article covering a women-only project for Habitat for Humanity.
15 volunteers joined an all-female Women Build project in Carlsbad for San Diego Habitat for Humanity to help construct a two-bedroom condo for a North County waitress and her 4-year-old son. Strand enlisted 14 friends and peers for the all-day project and contributed $1,500. For the complete story, click here.
